Quxian Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Western Zhejiang. The Quxian Formation was erected by Zhen Jinsheng and Li Longtong in 1980. The reference section is about 8 km northeast of the Longyou County of Zhejiang. Upper formation in the Qujiang Gr.
Lithology and Thickness
The Quxian Formation is mainly represented by a set of break red microclastic rocks, which is roughly divided into two parts. The lower part is built up by break red thick-bedded fine sandstone, fine sandstone and siltstone, intercalated with purple red and gray white microclastic rocks, while the middle and upper middle parts are mainly built up by gray white and purple red medium and fine-grained clastic rock rhythms. The Quxian Formation is 1799 m thick.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Neither top nor base of the formation is observed in type section. Elsewhere it conformably overlies the Jinhua Fm.
Upper contact
Disconformabily overlain by the Tongxiang Fm
Regional extent
The formation occurs in the Jinqu basin of west Zhejiang. It is relatively coarse in lithology in the eastern and western parts of the basin while on the syncline at Lizhai of the east Dongyang basin, it is built up by break red greatly thick massive sandy conglomerate, with a total thickness of more than 1000 m. It is more than 2361.2 m in Shendian of Lanxi and 1562.7 m in Hengshan-Xiafeng.

Fossils
The formation yields ostracods Tangxiella tangxiensis, T. anongma, Talicypridea zhejiangensis, T. guxianensis; Charophytes Maedlerisphaera corollacea, Euaclistochara mundula, Obtusochara cylindrica; and in Gaotangshi, Shuangyuntou, Liantang, Xiaonanhai north of Longyou of Quzhou, it also yields Dinosaur eggs, teeth and broken bones.
